Published Friday, 22 November 2024

The Commission is pleased to release its 2023-24 Annual Report (PDF, 3095 KB) detailing its achievements over the past year, including a range of initiatives to support South Australia's future development, bolster resilience to climate change, create new housing models, and empower communities.

The report demonstrates the Commission’s commitment to delivering effective planning and sustainable growth across the state, particularly through the development of the Greater Adelaide Regional Plan discussion paper, which set the groundwork for managing growth and development over the next 30 years.

Additionally, the draft Kangaroo Island Regional Plan was launched through the new Regional Planning Portal, an exciting digital tool that helps South Australians engage with planning frameworks and share feedback.

The Commission continued its efforts to help SA plan for the increasing risks of climate change. It released a Planning for Climate Change brochure and progressed updates to bushfire hazard overlays and the initiation of a State-wide Flood Hazard Code Amendment to improve flood risk mapping and ensure safer, climate-resilient development.

It also provided recommendation on tree protection reform, which resulted in the introduction of new regulations to protect Adelaide's mature trees and preserve the city's urban canopy. And the Future Living Code Amendment introduced innovative new co-located housing models to balance development with heritage and green spaces.

The Commission reinforced its commitment to robust community consultation, completing the inaugural five-year review of the Community Engagement Charter and recommending increased inclusivity in planning decisions.
