The Minister for Planning Stephan Knoll has released the Report by the Expert Panel on Planning Reform into Heritage and Character in the Planning and Design Code.

The Expert Panel, chaired by Brian Hayes QC, was tasked with reviewing and providing advice on the heritage and character provisions in the new Code, specifically to:

  • provide additional clarity on the nature and intent of the Panel’s original heritage reform recommendations, especially those relating to contributory items
  • review the heritage and character policies proposed by the State Planning Commission for the draft Planning and Design Code.

The Report makes a number of recommendations, many of which are already being implemented or considered as part of the new Code.
